Job shadowing inside a working education group.

Your staff spend their days alongside our teachers and trainers — watching real lessons, lab sessions and workshops, comparing methods, and taking practice home. Because AKMI runs its own VET institute and college, there is always something live to observe, not a demonstration staged for visitors.
Duration 2–5 days
For teachers, trainers & staff
Sectors School · VET · Adult
Funded under KA121 & KA122

What it is

Observe, compare, take practice home

Job shadowing is the least scripted of the staff mobilities and, for many teams, the most useful. There is no set curriculum to deliver: your staff shadow ours as they work, sit in on the parts most relevant to their own role, and use structured debriefs to turn what they see into something they can apply back home.

We shape each visit around what your team wants to look at — a subject department, a way of running labs, how learners with additional needs are supported, how assessment or quality assurance works in practice. You tell us the focus; we open the right doors and pair your staff with the right colleagues.

What you can shadow

Areas open to observation

Common focuses — mix them to suit your team. Tell us your priority and we build the visit around it.

Work-based learning & labs

Live lessons across subjects and levels.

Labs & workshops

Specialised practical training in our vocational fields.

Work-based learning

How placements and employer links are coordinated.

Assessment & quality

Evaluation, moderation and quality-assurance practice.

Learner support & inclusion

Support for learners with fewer opportunities or additional needs.

Digital & EdTech in class

Tools and blended methods as they’re actually used.

Sample week

How a five-day visit can flow

One way a week comes together — tap a day to expand. Shorter 2–4 day visits use the same shape, compressed.
Day 1Welcome & orientation

Meet your host colleagues, tour the campus and agree the focus and observation plan for the week.

Day 2Classroom observation

Sit in on live lessons across subjects and levels, each followed by a short structured debrief with the teacher.

Day 3Labs, workshops & work-based learning

Observe practical training in specialised labs and workshops, and see how placements and employer links are coordinated.

Day 4Support, assessment & quality

Look at learner support, inclusion, assessment and quality-assurance practice with the staff who run them.

Day 5Reflect & take practice home

A final debrief turns what you observed into an action plan for your organisation, with certificates and Europass documents.

None of these dates work?

We can open a shadowing visit on dates you choose for a group of 8 or more.

Accommodation, transport, cultural programme, administrative support and how a mobility works across the three stages are the same for all staff activities.
